Indonesia’s Halal Products Assurance Agency, locally known as the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH), released Decree No. 80 of 2024, which was aimed at enhancing and simplifying the halal certification process for micro- and small-scale enterprises (MSE). The new regulation, which bears a similar title to Decree 61/2022 on Standard Operating Procedures for Halal Certificate Application Services at the BPJPH, took effect on 31 December 2024, and repealed and replaced Decree 61/2022.
Under Decree 80/2024, certification can be self-funded or facilitated by government agencies, associations, or private entities for micro and small enterprises (MSE). Facilitators must meet specific requirements, including providing funding and adhering to quotas. Costs may also vary depending on the certification scheme (self-declaration or regular application) and the complexity of the product. High-risk or complex products may require additional inspections and regular certification rather than self-declaration. The halal certification services are available through the SIHALAL platform: https://ptsp.halal.go.id/.
