Poland announced the suspension of poultry product exports, including eggs, from select regions in the country for a minimum of 30 days starting 23 April 2025. The decision follows the European Commission’s (EC) implementation of additional emergency measures in high-risk areas to contain the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
The export ban applies to the following regions:
1. Mazowieckie (Masovia), in east-central Poland where Warsaw is located;
2. Wielkopolskie (Greater Poland), in west-central Poland;
3. Kujawsko-Pomorskie, in mid-northern Poland;
4. Łódzkie, in central Poland; and
5. Warmińsko-Mazurskie, in northeast Poland.
The EC has classified above regions as “high risk” for the spread of HPAI, which recorded 73 confirmed cases. Moreover, these areas have high concentration of poultry farms and egg hatcheries, with Mazowieckie (Masovia) and Wielkopolskie (Greater Poland) alone accounting for 42% of the chickens raised in Poland in 2022.
