angle-left ADVISORY: Hong Kong Suspends Import of Live Poultry and Birds from the Philippines

The Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has informed the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong of the immediate notification submitted by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) regarding the outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) caused by the serotype H5 virus in the farms of San Antonio, Dalayap, Mangga and Barangka.

As such, the AFCD had imposed the immediate and temporary suspension of the import of live poultry and birds from the Philippines to safeguard the public health and the agricultural industry of Hong Kong.  In 2021, Philippines exported live birds to Hong Kong valued at USD 14,882.

Aside from the Philippines, temporary import suspension was imposed for the following countries: Cambodia, Cote D'Ivoire, Indonesia, India, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Vietnam, France, South Africa, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Mali, Japan, Belgium, Spain and the United States.

DTI advises all stakeholders to monitor the developments of this situation. For further questions and clarifications, you may contact EMB Market Officers at mid@dti.gov.ph and/or the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Hong Kong at HongKong@dti.gov.ph.
