angle-left ADVISORY: Japan Temporarily Suspends Import of PH Poultry Products

Japan has imposed a temporary import suspension of poultry meat and egg products(except down and feather) from the Philippines since 16 March 2020. The measure was implemented in order to prevent the introduction of H5N6 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus (Bird Flu or Avian Flu Virus) into Japan.

The Japan Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has issued the suspension which includes those shipped through third party countries, after the confirmation of reemergence of the avian influenza flu virus in the Philippines early March in a quail farm in Jaen, Nueva Ecija.

Covered by the temporary suspension are products under HS Codes 0207 (Meat and edible offal of fowls of the species Gallus domesticus, ducks, geese, turkeys) and 0407 (Birds' eggs, in shell, fresh, preserved or cooked).

Poultry meat products derived from animals slaughtered on and after 14 February 2020 and poultry egg products derived from eggs laid on and after 14 February 2020 are not eligible to be exported to Japan, taking into consideration the incubation period of the HPAI virus.
